Johnny Berhanemeskel and Bridget Carleton Named Toyota Canada Players of the Week for December 27-January 2

Johnny Berhanemeskel and Bridget Carleton have been selected as the Toyota Players of the Week for the week from December 27-January 2.

In Ramat Hasharon’s (Isreal) loss to Ramla, Carleton scored 21 points, 11 rebounds and a team high of 6 assists. The Chatham, ON native played for Iowa State University (NCAA) where she had the best single-season in ISU history and earned Big 12 Player of the Year honours. Making her WNBA debut in 2019, in this past season Carleton averaged 6.5 points, and 3.6 rebounds per game with the Minnesota Lynx. Having played over 80 games for Team Canada over the past 8 years, the 6’1'' guard most recently competed with the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament team that went 3-0 and secured Canada’s third consecutive Olympic appearance, which allowed Carleton to make her Olympic debut with Canada this past summer in Tokyo.

 Berhanemeskel had a big game with Chorale Roanne Basket (LNB Pro A) in the French Jeep Elite (ProA) league, scoring 25 points and 3 rebounds, shooting 9/11 from the field in the loss against Gravelines-Dunkerque. The 6’1” forward from Ottawa, ON played at the University of Ottawa (U SPORTS) where he was named the U SPORTS Player of the Year in his senior year and was Ottawa’s all-time leader in points scored, and first in career three-pointers made when he graduated. Berhanemeskel began his professional career in Europe in 2015, previously playing in Estonia, Spain, Germany and Greece before heading to France to join Chorale Roanne Basket. Berhanemeskel represented Canada at the 2015 World University Games and most recently, at the 2021 FIBA AmeriCup Qualifiers in Puerto Rico.
