Dillon Brooks and Kayla Alexander Named Toyota Canada Players of the Week for December 13-19

Kayla Alexander and Dillon Brooks have been selected as the Toyota Players of the Week for the week from December 13-19.

In Novosibirsk’s (NCAA) win last week, Alexander led the way with 29 points, shooting 13/18 from the field, 17 rebounds and added 3 steals in the win. The Milton, ON native played for Syracuse University (NCAA) where she was named the Syracuse all-time leading scorer as the first player to surpass over 2,000 career points (2,024), leader in blocks (350), field goals (736), free throws made (552) and games played (140). Selected in the first round, 8th overall at the 2013 WNBA draft, Alexander is a Team Canada veteran having repped the red and white dozens of times over the last 6 years. Most recently, Alexander represented Canada this past summer at the 2021 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. 

It was a big week for Brooks as he led the Memphis Grizzlies to a 3-1 record, averaging 26 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists over 4 games. Brooks also recorded an astounding 37 points in the game against Portland on December 19th. The Mississauga, ON native attended Oregon University (NCAA) where he was named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman team, and led his team to a Pac-12 conference regular season title in his Sophomore year. The 6’7” small forward was drafted the 45th pick overall at the 2017 NBA Draft where he scored 19 points, the most points scored by a Canadian-born player in an NBA debut. Brooks most recently represented team Canada at the 2015 Pan American Games, where he helped Canada earn silver at home in Toronto.
