TORONTO, Ont. (November 8, 2021) – Canada Basketball announced Monday the Men’s 3x3 National Team roster for the inaugural FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup 2021, which will take place at Bayfront Park in Miami, Florida from November 12-14.

Steve Sir, Alex Johnson, Adika Peter-McNeilly and Bikramjit Gill have been selected to represent Canada in the tournament.

A long-time 3x3 veteran and currently the top ranked player in Canada, Sir announced earlier this season at the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Montreal Masters 2021 that this season would be his last with the FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup 2021 serving as his final tournament in red and white.  The Edmonton, Alta. native has represented Canada internationally in several competitions, including the FIBA 3×3 World Cup 2018 in Philippines and most recently at the FIBA 3×3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2021 this past summer.

Johnson is back in the fold again after he had a memorable debut for Canada earlier this year at the FIBA 3×3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2021, where he averaged 6.25 points per game to lead the team.  Alongside Sir, Johnson also made two appearances on the FIBA 3x3 World Tour as a member of Team Edmonton.  As a member of Team Toronto, Johnson captured the 2018 3x3 Canada Quest National Finals.

While he’s no stranger to representing Canada on the international stage, Peter-McNeilly will make his 3x3 national team debut in Miami and most recently playing for Canada during the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Americas Qualifiers.  Peter-McNeilly was named an alternate for Canada’s FIBA 3×3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2021 and also made his FIBA 3x3 World Tour debut as a member of Team Edmonton at the Montreal Masters back in September.

Gill returns to represent Canada at the AmeriCup for the first time since the FIBA 3x3 World Cup Qualifier 2019.  Originally from Toronto, Gill plays 3x3 professionally in India with Gurugram Masters and was crowned 3BL Season 2 Champion this past summer.  As a member of Team Gurugram 3BL, he also picked up a pair of tournament wins this year at 3x3NL Katwijk and 3x3 PRO Cup Heerenveen.

Canada, currently ranked 23rd in the FIBA 3×3 Men’s Federation Rankings, is the number two seed for the FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup 2021 and the top ranked team in Pool B. The team will face the winner of the Qualifying Draw A (Uruguay, Haiti or Jamaica) at 12:50 PM ET, followed by Argentina at 4:50 PM ET in pool play on November 13th.

Following pool play, the medal round will begin on November 14th, with the top two teams from each of the four preliminary round groups competing in quarterfinal action.
