DEBRECEN, HUNGARY (August 11, 2021) - Canada has advanced to the FIBA U19 Women's World Cup Quarter Finals after a huge 79-72 win over France on Wednesday afternoon.

"Today was a huge team win for us," said head coach Fabian McKenzie. "The best basketball we have played so far in the tournament. The girls played extremely hard on defence and then on offence. We shared the ball and played connected together."

Rebecca Demeke lead the way for Canada with 19 points, followed by Lemyah Hylton with 14 points, while Shayeann Day-Wilson scored 11 points. Tara Wallack had an incredible game, making an impact for Canada recording 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists.

"Rebecca was a big star for us today, Tara Wallack was the unsung hero, and Lemyah Hylton came out and scored double digits," added McKenzie. "Just a total team effort."

After a tough loss to Mali yesterday, the victory over France was a moment to celebrate for Canada as they went 70% from the line and collected 24 bench points in the win.

"We had a great team win today and everyone stepped up and did their part and i'm just so proud of my team," added forward Tara Wallack.

Canada will have a day of rest tomorrow before facing Australia in the quarter-finals on Friday, August 13th at 5:30AM ET.
